Using a Case History format, selected cases will be reviewed in detail, outlining what the CBCT can tell us about the case and what it cannot tell us. Using a variety of commonly referred cases to endodontic practices, the discussion will review the user-interface, followed by the detailed process of viewing the volumes, extracting the details that the CBCT volume can reveal to a sophisticated viewer. Additional material will be shown from Human Cadaver studies performed at the Pacific Endodontic Research Foundation comparing CBCT volumes with traditional digital radiographs and then with the actual anatomical material itself. This course will be a unique opportunity for endodontists to make an informed decision about whether this technology has high value for them and what is involved in becoming an experienced user of that technology.
The course will also review the practice management issues with having a CBCT unit in an endodontic practice as well as reviewing the financial implications of such an acquisition. Actual financials from two practices will be reviewed so attendees can develop some sense on the financial risk involved in purchasing such tools.
This half-day course will review the role of CBCT imaging for the high-end endodontic practice.
The course will cover:
At the end of the presentation the attendee will know:
Gary B. Carr, D.D.S.
Dr. Gary B. Carr received his A.B Degree at Cornell University in the Classics, his DDS degree at SUNYAB, and Endodontic Certificate at the University of Illinois. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and has been practicing endodontics for more than 20 years in San Diego, California. Dr. Carr also introduced the operating microscope in endodontics and is the inventor and developer of more than 30 microsurgical instruments. In 1998, Dr. Carr began developing TDO Software with Amy Taylor, his Practice Manager at the time. Today, TDO is recognized as the most widely used endodontic software program in the world and is being used by nearly 700 endodontists in 20 different countries. Dr. Carr currently lives in Rancho Santa Fe, California with his wife and son.
Thomas V. McClammy D.M.D., M.S.
Dr. Tom McClammy has been pursuing excellence in dentistry since 1982. He had a thriving general practice in Oregon for 15 years where his desire for continuing education was initiated. His goal was to provide the finest care available to his patients with a passion he retains to this day. Tom has always embraced technology and was one of the first general practitioners in the country to use and incorporate the Dental Operating Microscope into a general restorative practice. So impassioned with the microscope and its versatility in his general practice he was approached to present his findings to the CDA and the ADA in the early 90’s. This led to numerous opportunities to present much needed information regarding the importance of adding lighting and magnification via the microscope to all disciplines in dentistry.
In 1996 Dr. McClammy sold his general practice to pursue the specialty of Endodontics at Boston University under the then leadership of Dr. Herbert Schilder. After completing the three years masters program Dr. McClammy returned to Oregon and opened an endodontic practice in Bend where he served the needs of Central Oregon until 2004. Pursuit of warm sunny days precipitated the sale of the Oregon endo practice and relocation to the Southwest. In 2005 North Scottsdale Endodontics was established with the same goal indelibly present; to deliver the finest patient care available. In addition to utilizing all the latest technologies including but not limited to TDO, Dr. McClammy installed J. Morita’s Veraviewepocs 3D cone beam volumetric imaging technology in early 2009. Tom is currently using this imaging modality for all areas in Endodontic treatment as well as implant treatment planning and placement.
